I ran across the following today, buried in my files for the past 15 years. In light of the current political climate, it seems to have some resonance. While I personally think that much of what we're up against today really is class warfare ("the wealthy against the working stiffs"), the thought is still right. Make of it what you will.

"We must learn to step on our own anger. Issues of fairness, privilege, and class resonate through our history. Much of our discontent has been generated by our ongoing story about the wealthy against the working stiffs.
"If we're ever going to quit reliving tht story on Montana and the West we have to talk things out, searching for accord, however difficult and long-winded the undertaking. We need to recognize that adversarial, winner-take-all, showdown political decision-making is a way we defeat ourselves. Our future starts when we begin honoring the dreams of our enemies while staying true to our own."
